A night of legendary selections from the iconic Blue Note Records jazz label, featuring jazz iconoclast BROWNMAN ALI and an all-star cast of Toronto’s top-tier players, re-imagining these innovative Blue Note arrangements through the lens of electric-jazz, as Miles Davis might have done. Known internationally for his work with the BROWNMAN ELECTRYC TRIO, a GRAMMY Award long-lister & 2x National Jazz Award winner for Electric Jazz Group of the Year, Brownman has been hailed by NPR in New York City as “the new standard in electric-jazz.” Audiences can expect deep-groove interpretations of Blue Note classics, where the rhythmic language of modern Black American Music collides with the harmonic daring of the label’s golden era. “We love taking classic jazz repertoire and re-imagining them through the electric-jazz lens", states Brownman, "as if it were written today and produced by someone like DJ Premier or Flying Lotus. The goal is to create something that sounds completely current, but still resonates with the history and lineage of the Blue Note jazz tradition.” And yes, you’ll definitely hear plenty of Miles Davis’ influence -- Brownman's touchstone -- in the resulting electric Blue Note sound. Don't miss it!

CODA magazine writes:
“... capturing the essence of the later years in Miles Davis’ life, his electric period, without imitation. Brownman's sound is uniquely his own.... clearly paying apt tribute to Brownman’s NYC mentor Randy Brecker".

Buffalo News writes:
“Awards are nice, naturally, but to dig what Brownman is doing, you’ve got to see him live. I had a chance to do just that over the summer when Brownman fronted his killer trio ... I came away with a blown mind. This guy’s got chops galore, soul to match, and a sense of phrasing that recalls many of the greats, but suggests itself to be his own.”

Toronto’s NOW Magazine writes:
“It’s incredible the energy output this group can generate... my ears would swear they were hearing a whole big band at times”.

ABOUT BROWNMAN ALI | www.Brownman.com
An internationally acclaimed jazz iconoclast, Brownman Ali is a 2x National Jazz Award winner; 10x Global Music Award winner; 7x Toronto Independent Music Award winner; JUNO nominee; is heralded by the NY Village Voice as "Canada's preeminent jazz trumpet player", and is best known as the last trumpet soloist for legendary jazz-hip-hop outfit Guru's Jazzmatazz (replacing Donald Byrd in this iconic group). Splitting his time between Toronto, ON & Brooklyn, NY, when not leading 8 groups of his own (including the National Jazz Award winning BROWNMAN ELECTRYC TRIO & Montreal Jazz Fest's "Grand Prix du Jazz" winners CRUZAO), he is also a highly in-demand studio session musician having appeared on over 300 recordings to date, and is the CEO of the acclaimed Brooklyn-based record label BROWNTASAURAS RECORDS. His bombastically narrative style as an improviser, often reminiscent of Miles Davis, has made him one of the most sought after soloists today.
